Song of the Day:  Rainy Day Blues by Willie Nelson:
Save your dimes and nickels save 'em for a rainy day
It ain't gonna keep the rain from coming but at least you know you've paid your way

Willie's words are so true, because baby, did it rain again today! Not only that, we didn't pass one village or person all day long, so we also didn't  spend any money on this rainy day. It rained virtually the entire day.  The forecast tomorrow is for more rain, although I think for less.  This ended up being a very long hike, and our second day hiking in excess of 20 miles.  Fortunately, the climb was not excessive, so it eased the pain a bit.  Did I mention that we got lost twice.....?  Adding about 3-4 miles to the day....breaking our streak of two straight days without getting lost!  That said, the muddy conditions did add to the challenge of the hike. It's funny, we buy these expensive, light weight trail shoes- however, at several points today, we probably had a pound or more of mud on each shoe, wiping out any of the benefits of a lightweight shoe!

Here is Linda outside our hotel in Caprese Michelangelo before we left this morning:

The area we are hiking is very agricultural based.  Here is a wheat field we walked through:

The countryside here was beautiful and we passed several very nice homes:

The highlight of the day was our delicious lunch stop along the trail.  We often do this when there are no towns or restaurants along the way.  Our standby is canned tuna I olive oil on crackers.  Man, that's good Eating!

This week, we will walk another 100 miles or so to arrive at Assissi next Saturday.  The next three days will be relatively flat, then we ascend into the mountains again.   The last day into Assissi will be very challenging, with a walk of about 20 miles and a climb of almost 4000 feet assuming we don't get lost....  But, of course, St Francis will be waiting for us and our sore bodies will be immediately healed!

Sansepolcro is a reasonably large town of about 16,000 people.  Tonight we walked the old city (although it was raining), visiting the Duomo and several other areas of interest.  We ended up having a marginal meal at the hotel tonight.  Fortunately, we haven't had many of those on this trip.

Getting into the town today was very challenging, and at times, death defying.  There are no sidewalks on the outer ring of the city, and we had to dodge cars as they came off of a freeway, and then deal with the challenges of many roundabouts.  We will have to do this again tomorrow when we leave town.  Fortunately it will be Sunday morning, so may be fairly quiet.
